单元 Unit

Unit Title: Analytical Essay 分析文章
Summary: Students will learn how debate generates understanding and as a direct result lessens conflict, promotes tolerance and helps us understand and deal with differing perspectives. In addition, we have been exploring what it means to be human and how we relate to each other in our different relationships, using Essay / Prose Non-fiction. In addition, we also learned how to analyze an essay with literary devices and terms




Unit Title: Language & Social Groups 语言与社会群体
Summary: It varies from age groups to occasions and professions. For example, schools have specific vocabulary and language. Depending on location, individuals make their language according to the group they are interacting with. We make our language according to or similar to the speakers around us for social reasons. When an individual adjusts his/her speech patterns to be distinct from those belonging to another group or social identity; usually to indicate greater status, example, between employer and worker.




Unit Title: Response to Literature 文学探究
Summary: 人鼠之间 Of Mice And Men, The main themes of this novella are very clear: one (the fragility of people’s dreams) is indicated in the title. Two other important themes are friendship and its opposite, loneliness. George and Lennie are unusual because they ‘string along together’, even though their friendship is threatened by Lennie’s behavior. The other characters tend to be alone, isolated, because of their lifestyle. The novel explores the issue of power through the character of Curley and the influence he has over the ranch hands and his wife. George also wields power over Lennie. Curley’s wife seems powerless, but she could have Crooks killed if she wanted. Crooks seems powerless, but he is able to make Lennie believe he’s been abandoned. Candy seems powerless, but he has the money to make George and Lennie’s dream a reality.




Unit Title: Creative Short Story 创意写作 短篇小说
Summary: We start this unit by looking at how the good writers /authors produce their works and follow the main ideas from 王安忆《小说家的十三堂课》. Then, students will write a story repertoire for the Border Town on how the main characters, Cuicui and Erlao will encounter in the future.




Unit Title: Literature & Film 电影与文学
Summary: We look at some techniques in the production of movies and how a novel can be made into a film successfully. Students will discuss putting their creative writing for the Border Town into a film, projecting the future encounter of Cuicui and Erlao.
